The Translational Research Institute for Pain in Later Life (TRIPLL) is an NIA funded Edward R. Roybal center with a focus on chronic pain. TRIPLL was established in response to the plight of millions of older adults experiencing persistent pain, a costly and frequently disabling disorder in later life. Effective solutions to the problem of later-life pain require moving basic behavioral and social science and medical research findings more rapidly into programs, practices and polices targeting older adults. TRIPLL supports translational research in aging in the NYC area.
TRIPLL’s mission is to improve the prevention and management of pain in later life, thereby increasing the health and well-being of older adults. This mission will be accomplished by implementing a strategic action plan, including:
- Creating and strengthening collaborations through the creation of a dynamic infrastructure to support academic-community research partnerships;
- Supporting pilot studies to originate high quality, innovative behavioral, medical and social science research;
- Translating research findings into pain treatments, intervention programs, and policies that can benefit older benefits with (or at risk of) pain; and
- Disseminating resources, information and effective intervention strategies to researchers, practitioners, policy makers and older adults.
TRIPLL is a collaboration between investigators at Cornell-Ithaca, Columbia University, the Visiting Nurse Service of New York’s Center for Home Care Policy and Research, Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Weill Cornell Medical College.
