Title: Determining the Extent of Analgesic Medication Adherence among Older Adults with CNCP

Overview: This research will identify relevant peer-reviewed literature to determine the extent of analgesic medication adherence among older adults with CNCP. This effort will generate insights into existing literature gaps that will form the basis for future research strategies for measuring and monitoring medication adherence for this patient population. Furthermore, the literature review will identify and organize the known universe of biopsychosocial variables and their interrelations that can explain poor medication adherence. The significance of this work is that it will lead to innovative approaches for applying health information technology solutions, such as mobile health devices and/or informatics-based patient education strategies, that may optimize medication adherence among older adults. These findings will add to the groundbreaking research being conducted at the Translational Institute for Pain in Later Life, which is focusing on technology-mediated interventions for developing patient-centered approaches that improve pain and pain care management.
