Pilot Study Program

Goals and Purpose:

The overarching goal of the pilot study program is to encourage researchers to translate basic science research on pain into practice, and thereby expand scientific knowledge and provide information useful to practitioners who serve older adults with chronic pain from cancer and non-cancer related causes.

Major aims:

  1. To provide data that are useful to understanding and eventually alleviating pain experienced by older persons.
  2. To promote researcher interest in conducting collaborative research with community agencies as a means of translating basic research into applied settings.
  3. To provide the necessary knowledge and experience that will lead to an externally funded (e.g. NIH or equivalent) proposal to continue the research.
  4. To mentor researchers in applied research by offering support and consultation on methodological issues and by providing access to community agencies.
