Positive affect and chronic pain in older adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Title:  Positive affect and chronic pain in older adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Investigator: Anthony Ong, PhD, Cornell University

Overview:  The proposal seeks to address empirical and theoretical ambiguities in the extant literature and to highlight key moderators of links between positive affect and chronic pain processes and outcomes. Study Aims: Aim 1: To review systematically the methodology and overall quality of data from existing cross-sectional, ambulatory, longitudinal, and experimental studies of positive affect and chronic pain. Aim 2: To assess the direction and magnitude of association between positive affect and pain-related outcomes using meta-analytic methods. Aim 3: To identify potentially important theoretical moderators of the relation between positive affect and chronic pain outcomes.
