Title: Improving the Self-Management of Chronic Pain through Momentary Assessment
Investigator: Phil Adams, Interaction Design Lab, Cornell University
Overview: This pilot study aims to develop and test novel chronic pain self-report instruments specifically designed for older adults making repeated momentary self-assessments. The study will: (1) investigate optimal delivery and recognition of chronic pain momentary assessments for older adults using mobile phone interfaces; (2) investigate the use of a non-screen-based tangible user interface such as a squeeze ball (TUI) for reporting pain intensity values throughout the day. There is an anticipation to develop one or more novel on-screen interfaces as well as a TUI for the self-report of pain intensity. This pilot may inform the translation of self-report measures for a variety of related domains to mobile phones.
