Alternatives to living with joint pain

2018-09-17T10:06:09-04:00

Importance of Good Pain Management

2018-09-17T10:05:56-04:00

The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) just released their latest “What’s Hot” newsletter, in which they focused on the impact of chronic pain in older adults and strategies to improve pain management. “Under-treatment of chronic pain in older adults is common, contributing to unnecessary suffering," said Deborah Dillon McDonald, RN, PhD, of the University of Connecticut School of Nursing, who was an advisor for the issue. Addressing chronic pain, the newsletter argues, is the starting point in reducing disability in older adults and improving patient well-being. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/221983.php

Botox Effectively Treats Chronic Pain

2018-09-17T10:05:45-04:00

Research has shown that Botox, the notorious anti-aging injection, is a fast and effective treatment for many chronic pain conditions. Botox works by reducing pain caused by muscle spasms and other chronic pain ailments. AmeriCare Medical held a symposium in Troy, Michigan earlier this month, with special guest speaker pain management expert Dr. Todd Lininger of Neuro-Pain Consultants of Bloomfield Township to discuss this promising therapy. With FDA approval, several specialty healthcare sites across the nation have begun to offer this pain management treatment.   http://www.prweb.com/releases/prweb2011/4/prweb8294303.htm

Interview with Dr. Nathaniel Berman

2013-04-02T14:32:55-04:00

TRIPLL:  Can you tell us about your clinical work? Dr. Berman: I mostly take care of patients with chronic kidney disease or those who are on are dialysis.  Three months a year I see patients on the in-patient nephrology service. TRIPLL:  What are the challenges working with dialysis patients? Dr. Berman:  What interests me about dialysis patients is that we constantly have to reassess patients as to which treatments are important.  There is little guidance on the risks and benefits associated with dialysis and treatment.  We have many patients who are very sick and whose life expectancy is measured under a [...]

Cost-saving Tools for Chronic Pain Management

2013-04-02T14:32:55-04:00

Those suffering from chronic pain often find the costs of care extensive. This condition, based purely on patient perception, poses challenges to patients that range from dealing with insurance companies, financing regular visits to multiple doctors, and deciding which medications will most be most effective. Armed with the right tools, chronic pain patients can manage their care in a more cost-effective way. Finding a primary care doctor who can develop a comprehensive treatment plan can save patients unnecessary visits to different specialists. In order to maximize therapy sessions that are covered by insurance, Dennis Turk, a professor of anesthesiology and pain [...]
