The author of a recent paper published in the Journal of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacotherapy examined the importance of integrating pain management and palliative care. Using a case report in the journal, the author identifies “the use of indwelling catheters for continuous interscalene blocks in cancer pain management as an example of why these two medical subspecialties need improved collaboration and integration.” The author concludes that tighter integration between the two subspecialties can significantly benefit, “patients living, and dying, with cancer.”
